Can I use an IKEA gift card from one country in another?
It depends on the country that issued it. IKEA Austria calls its cards country-specific, and German, French, US and Australian terms also limit cards to their own stores and website.
Other countries share. UK and Irish cards issued from 6 October 2025 are accepted in 17 countries, including Canada, Switzerland and mainland Spain. Swiss terms list 21 other countries, the US and Australia among them. Mainland Spanish cards work in 18 other countries, but not in Germany or Austria. When in doubt, buy the card of the country where it will be spent.
What currency does an IKEA gift card hold?
The balance stays in the issuing country's currency. IKEA Switzerland issues its balance in CHF, and IKEA US cards hold dollars. Where a card crosses borders, the local IKEA converts it. IKEA Spain charges a 3% fee on non-euro cards, and IKEA Australia sets a weekly exchange rate.
The card is IKEA store credit, not a bank card. IKEA gives no cash change. On IKEA.de it also pays in the restaurant, the bistro and the Swedish food shop.
Does an IKEA gift card expire?
Validity is set country by country. US, Polish and Spanish cards have no expiry date. UK and Irish cards issued from 6 October 2025 last five years from purchase. German cards last three years from the last top-up, Australian cards three years from issue. French cards expire 365 days after purchase or activation. Swiss cards without a printed date stay valid for ten years.
How do I redeem an IKEA gift card online?
Add items to your cart and choose the gift card option at checkout. Enter the 19-digit card number with its 4-digit PIN, or the 16-digit code of an e-gift card. IKEA.de accepts up to 10 cards per order and keeps leftover balance on the card. US rules are on the IKEA US gift card page.

Can I use a German IKEA gift card in Austria?
No. IKEA Germany states its gift card can only be redeemed in Germany, and IKEA Austria says cards bought elsewhere cannot be redeemed in Austria. Buy the German IKEA card for IKEA.de and German stores, or the Austrian IKEA card for Austrian stores and IKEA.at.
Does a US IKEA gift card expire?
No. IKEA US says its gift cards do not expire and carry no inactivity or service fees. They work at participating IKEA stores in the United States and online at IKEA.us. You can pay for the US IKEA card with Bitcoin or other supported coins.
Can I use a UK IKEA gift card in Ireland or Spain?
Yes, for cards issued from 6 October 2025. IKEA UK terms list 17 countries, including Ireland, mainland Spain, Canada and Switzerland. Spanish island stores such as Mallorca, Tenerife and Gran Canaria are excluded. IKEA Spain charges a 3% conversion fee on non-euro cards. See the UK IKEA card.
