Quick answer
IKEA gift cards are spent at checkout, not loaded onto an account. On the payment page, add an IKEA gift card and enter the 19-digit number with the 4-digit PIN. E-gift cards may use a 16-digit code instead. IKEA US sets out its rules at ikea.com/us/en/customer-service/gift-cards-pub3d1efe50/. German, Austrian, French and US cards work only in their issuing country.
Redeem an IKEA gift card step by step
Use the right country site
Shop on the IKEA website or app of the country that issued the card, for example IKEA.us or ikea.com/de.
Fill your cart
Add items, choose delivery or pickup and go to checkout. IKEA Germany asks you to log in with an IKEA Family or IKEA for Business profile first.
Add the gift card
On the payment page, select the option to add an IKEA gift card or balance card.
Enter the numbers
Type the 19-digit card number and the 4-digit PIN under the grey scratch-off field. Digital cards may show a 16-digit redemption code in the delivery email instead.
Pay the rest
If the order costs more than the balance, pay the difference with another method. In Germany, Klarna cannot be combined with a gift card.
What happens to the rest of my IKEA balance?
It stays on the card. IKEA takes only what the order needs, and you cannot pick a smaller amount yourself. Keep the card and its PIN for the next purchase, because IKEA cards are not stored in your profile.
IKEA Germany lets you combine up to 10 gift or balance cards in one order. In stores, the card also pays at the restaurant, the Bistro and the Swedish food market. Check what is left on the gift card page of your IKEA country site. IKEA US also gives balances in any US store or on 1-888-888-4532.
Can I use an IKEA gift card in another country?
It depends on where it was issued. IKEA Austria states its cards work only in Austria, and foreign cards are refused there. Germany, France, Australia and the US follow the same single-country rule.
UK cards issued from 6 October 2025 travel further. They are accepted in 17 IKEA countries, including Ireland, Canada, Switzerland and mainland Spain. Spanish mainland cards work in 18 other countries but not in Germany or Austria. When IKEA Spain accepts a non-euro card, it charges a 3% conversion fee.
What if my IKEA gift card is declined?
Timing is the most common cause.
- Not active yet: IKEA Germany says online-bought cards usually activate about 24 hours after the email. Cards from outside retailers can take about 36 hours. IKEA Spain cards work 48 hours after purchase.
- Blocked balance: IKEA Spain warns that a checkout error, or going back while typing the card details, blocks the balance for 24 hours.
- Wrong country: a German card fails on IKEA.at and vice versa.
- Excluded item: US cards do not pay for IKEA Kitchen Services or TaskRabbit.

Frequently asked questions
Do IKEA gift cards expire?
Validity varies by issuing country. US and Spanish cards have no expiry date. UK cards issued from 6 October 2025 last five years from purchase, while older UK cards have no expiry.
Can IKEA replace a lost gift card?
No. IKEA US and IKEA UK both state that the value of a lost, damaged or stolen card is not replaced. Keep the code and PIN private.
Can I top up an IKEA gift card?
No. IKEA US says its cards cannot be reloaded, and IKEA Spain says the same. Buy a new card instead.
