How to redeem
- Confirm that the purchased digital gift card is active and will be used within metropolitan France. The French terms say activation occurs no later than 72 hours after email receipt; they do not require waiting the full 72 hours.
- For online payment enter the gift-card details in IKEA’s gift/refund-card payment section; in-store present the QR code or a readable printout.
- Use another accepted payment method for a shortfall, preserve any residual value and note the actual 365-day deadline before planning later purchases.
Which IKEA card should I buy?
Buy the card of the country where the recipient shops at IKEA, in that country's currency. German, Austrian, French, US and Australian cards only work in their own country. The balance is held in the issuing country's currency; where another IKEA country accepts the card, it converts the balance (IKEA Spain charges a 3% fee on non-euro cards, IKEA Australia applies a weekly rate).
The digital interval is smaller than the physical-card limit
France’s issuer page describes digital gifts from twenty to one hundred and fifty euros. A physical card bought at a store has a separately published five-to-one-thousand-euro interval. The physical ceiling must not be used to advertise a thousand-euro digital code. Keep a requested amount unconfirmed until its exact offer is observed. For a larger collective present, the issuer also describes a separate group-collection service; its existence does not turn the purchased digital-card selector into an unrestricted custom-value form.
Metropolitan France is an explicit issuing-country restriction
The May 2026 national conditions limit purchased French cards to IKEA stores in metropolitan France, IKEA.fr and supported distance-sales use within that territory. That is more precise than describing an everywhere-in-Europe euro card. A recipient planning to shop in Belgium, Germany or an overseas French territory should not rely on the common currency or shared brand. The local help also asks customers holding a foreign-issued card to inspect that issuing country’s terms before using it in France. That incoming-card possibility does not make the French programme itself exportable. Establish the actual issuing format and intended shopping location before selecting prepaid value for somebody travelling or moving abroad.
The deadline is 365 days, with the actual timing record retained
The French gift-card terms state expiration three hundred and sixty-five days after purchase or activation. Do not casually replace this with a permanent balance or assume a new calendar year applies after each use. A gift bought well before a celebration also needs its actual timing checked rather than using the recipient’s opening date. Preserve the original confirmation and activation information. If the purchase and activation dates differ, identify the documented deadline instead of silently choosing whichever produces the longer period.
Email receipt starts a maximum activation window
Section six of the French gift-card terms says a digital gift is activated no later than seventy-two hours after it reaches the beneficiary’s email inbox. The maximum does not require every recipient to wait the full three days: activation can happen earlier. Verify the actual card’s status before relying on it for a furniture payment, rather than assuming either immediate readiness or a compulsory delay. The terms separately say physical cards are active once paid for. This issuer activation rule does not measure this service’s delivery, establish current code supply or confirm any particular order.
Keep a purchased gift separate from refund credit and promotional vouchers
French IKEA material distinguishes a carte cadeau, a carte avoir issued as refund credit and a bon d’achat connected with a promotion. They can have different origins, permitted uses and deadlines, even when a message contains an IKEA-branded code. The purchase help specifically warns against accepting refund cards from sources other than IKEA’s own authorised return or customer-support routes. A furniture return is not a retail sale of a new digital gift.
Repeated spending and supplementary payment are supported
The French conditions allow a card to be used over more than one purchase. When the goods cost less than the available balance, the remainder stays on the card; when they cost more, another accepted payment method covers the shortfall. This makes a digital gift a contribution toward a recipient’s furnishing choices rather than a requirement to spend every euro in one visit. The balance remains subject to its deadline, however. Keep the card details after the first use and check the remaining amount before a later order.
Ordinary checkout and Shop & Go are not the same payment route
IKEA’s France page supports card use online, in-store and for Click & Collect. Its use help also describes restaurant, bistro and Swedish-food-store purchases, but excludes gift or refund cards from the app’s Shop & Go payment function. A recipient using a phone in a shop should therefore distinguish displaying a QR code at a supported checkout from paying through that scan-and-go feature. Plan the purchase around the actual accepted payment step, particularly when combining furniture and food. Do not import a foreign market’s fulfilment exclusion into the French Click & Collect guidance.
Resale restrictions remain visible alongside consumer purchase rights
The French conditions prohibit resale of gift cards to a third party. Current stock and permission to supply remain unconfirmed. The conditions also contain specific consumer withdrawal provisions, so a brief statement that every digital gift can never be refunded would omit material qualifications. Keep the purchase channel and applicable terms with the receipt when investigating a cancellation or return. Ordinary product-return credit, a purchased gift and a consumer request to withdraw from a gift purchase each require their own documented process.

More questions about this card
Can the €1,000 physical limit be used for a French digital card?
No. The published digital interval is €20–€150. The separate physical-card limit does not expand the digital product menu or establish extra selectable values.
Must I wait the full 72 hours after receiving the gift email?
The French gift-card terms set a maximum: activation occurs no later than 72 hours after email receipt and may happen earlier. Check the actual card’s activation status before using it.
Can a French-issued card automatically be used in another euro country?
The French conditions restrict it to metropolitan France and local supported channels. A foreign-issued card needs its own issuing-country rules checked.
