How to redeem

  1. Sign into the intended PlayStation account and check that its country matches the wallet code.
  2. In PlayStation Store on the web, select the profile and Redeem Code; enter the 12-character code and continue. PS5, PS4 and PlayStation App routes are also documented.
  3. For a child’s gift, have the family manager redeem the wallet code to the family manager account, then set the child’s monthly spending limit.
  4. Inspect the resulting wallet credit. Funds or content cannot be transferred between accounts; do not test a gift by claiming it on the sender account.

Which PlayStation card should I buy?

Buy the voucher issued for the country of the recipient's PlayStation account, as set at account creation; Sony does not let you change that country later. The PlayStation Store wallet holds funds for the account's country, and Sony's US terms say it only accepts prepaid cards with currency value from the same country as the account, so a card from another country does not convert.

The US account comes before the dollar amount

A dollar-denominated gift needs a more precise description than “PlayStation credit.” The current US account agreement accepts prepaid monetary cards from the same country designated for the receiving account. Ask which account the recipient uses for the intended purchase, especially when the person has moved or plays on a console bought abroad. A seller showing an approximate US-dollar checkout price has not necessarily described the underlying code country. Keep “US account” and “USD face value” together in the product specification. That gives the recipient something concrete to check before any private code is entered.

A child’s present uses the family manager wallet

PlayStation’s US redemption support directs wallet top-up codes intended for a child to the family manager’s account. The US agreement says associated child accounts do not have separate wallets, and their purchases use the adult wallet. It also sets a default child monthly spending limit of zero. Consequently, a successful top-up does not by itself give a child permission to spend the gift. The adult should inspect the spending control and the intended purchase together. Agree how much of the household wallet is available to that child, rather than lending them the adult’s login. A monetary birthday present and permission to buy a particular age-rated game are two decisions the family needs to make.

The whole card must fit within account capacity

The US prepaid-card clause describes a balance-capacity check: if adding the card’s full value would exceed the wallet limit, the card cannot be applied until enough funds have been spent. Ask the holder to inspect their real balance and any limit message rather than relying on a seller’s maximum order size. A code that cannot presently fit is not automatically an invalid code. Likewise, the ability to pay a large cryptocurrency invoice does not enlarge the PlayStation account. Resolve capacity before arranging several gifts for the same recipient, since separate senders may be planning to fund the same wallet.

Choose money credit or a named entitlement deliberately

The US gift-card overview describes digital games, add-ons and subscriptions as potential uses of Store credit. This does not make a wallet card a promise of a fixed number of subscription months. PlayStation’s redemption guide distinguishes wallet top-ups from game downloads and subscription vouchers, even though a code-entry screen may look similar. For someone requesting PlayStation Plus, ask whether they want money toward their chosen plan or a specifically described membership product. Inspect the current plan and total before deciding how large a contribution is useful. If they instead request an expansion, record its exact game and edition.

Use the twelve-character redemption route

On the web, the US support steps start at PlayStation Store: open the profile, choose Redeem Code, enter the twelve-character string and continue. PS5, PS4 and the PlayStation App have their own documented routes. A ten-character discount code is handled through a shopping-cart discount field instead. The code should remain private while the recipient checks their selected account. For a gift, let that recipient perform the final confirmation. Trying the code first on the sender’s account is a real redemption, and PlayStation says funds or content cannot subsequently be transferred between accounts to repair the choice.

Do not invent an expiry from general voucher help

The current US support page asks users to check any expiry date printed on a voucher. A game-promotion deadline, a subscription renewal date and the date a wallet was credited are different pieces of information. A seller’s familiar brand name alone supplies no missing validity clause.

A digital Store gift will not fund a new console

The US overview explicitly excludes physical hardware and merchandise from the gift card’s digital Store uses. This matters when a recipient says they are saving for “a PlayStation”: determine whether they mean a console purchase or a digital game library. A wallet contribution may support the latter while failing the former purpose. PlayStation Direct and PlayStation Gear are separate shopping contexts. Check the intended destination before giving an amount toward a controller, boxed game or accessory. A gift message should state digital PlayStation Store credit so the recipient understands the planned use before opening a code.

An agreed gift amount still needs an actual offer

The official US overview links its purchase partner but does not publish a fixed denomination set in the reviewed page text. A contribution budget must match an exact USD value available in the order form. An operational offer must identify the product and amount, show its dated payment quote, then follow the service’s payment confirmation and delivery process. Keep those seller stages distinct from the later PlayStation redemption.

US vouchers load only accounts whose country is the United States, because the US wallet accepts prepaid cards from the same country only. Buy the card for the country and currency of the account that will redeem it.

Do PlayStation United States gift cards expire?

Sony's voucher terms make each code valid for one use and state no expiry date; wallet funds are non-refundable and non-transferable except where the law requires.

More questions about this card

Can a Canadian dollar code fund a US account?

The US account agreement requires prepaid monetary cards from the account’s country.

Why can a child still be unable to spend a redeemed gift?

Wallet codes are redeemed by the family manager. The child’s separate monthly spending control may still be zero or too low for the intended purchase.

Is a US wallet card’s expiry confirmed here?

No. Generic voucher guidance is not a definitive expiry or fee clause for the exact paid US wallet code.
