Validity

US and UK Starbucks Cards and their balances have no expiry date and no activation, service or dormancy fees; the German terms set no card expiry and refer to statutory limitation periods.

How to redeem

  1. Use the genuine German Starbucks Card at an AmRest-operated participating Coffee House in Germany. Use the official store locator Card-acceptance filter; another licensee may not accept it.
  2. Where supported, the app can display an electronic copy/barcode of the registered Card for the same participating Card-payment programme. A separate Rewards QR code can collect Stars even when another tender pays the purchase; it does not itself prove stored credit.

Which Starbucks card should I buy?

Buy the card of the country where it will be spent. A US card also works in Canada, the UK, Ireland, Mexico and Australia; the German card works only in participating AmRest Coffee Houses in Germany. Value on a Starbucks Card stays in the currency of the country where it was sold; when a US or UK card is used abroad, Starbucks converts the spend without charging a conversion fee.

Identify the German issuer and participating operator

The current national Card/App agreement identifies AmRest Coffee Deutschland as the issuer and operator. It limits the Card, app payment and associated programme to its participating Coffee Houses in Germany. Locations operated by other licensees are excluded, even if they display the Starbucks brand. For a recipient who plans to use one particular café, this operator distinction is more useful than assuming a national logo guarantees acceptance. The official location information provides a Card-acceptance filter; identify the chosen location before deciding that a gift matches the intended visit.

Local loading figures do not describe cards for sale

The German agreement gives EUR 5 as the smallest load and EUR 250 as a monthly loading ceiling. It separately states that reaching EUR 5,000 in lifetime loading leads to replacement with a new Card. Auto-reload has its own trigger and reload settings. Keep the starting amount of an actual offered Card distinct from limits that will govern managing its balance later.

The app can show two different kinds of identifier

The terms describe an electronic Card representation as a copy of the same Card, usable for payment at the participating AmRest locations. They also describe a Rewards QR code that can collect Stars while another tender pays for the purchase. Those are different roles. Seeing a reward identifier or being able to scan an app is not proof that a monetary balance has been loaded. A recipient should check the actual prepaid funds associated with the genuine Card instead of treating membership or a displayed reward count as another euro contribution.

Use the national age condition

The German Card/App/Rewards programme is not directed at or intended for people under 16. That local condition differs from the US Card programme’s age wording and is not replaced with a foreign minimum. The agreement also treats personal registration and reward participation as subject to their own conditions. Before giving money for use in a young recipient’s account, check whether that person can participate in the German programme. A gift’s advertised euro amount says nothing about whether a particular user or account meets the relevant local terms.

No fee is not an unlimited-validity guarantee

The issuer excludes fees for issuing, activating, using and loading the German Card. In the adjacent limitation clause, however, it refers to statutory limitation periods without printing a numerical contractual expiry or the event that starts it. It would be misleading to replace that wording with either a three-year anniversary or a promise that German funds never expire.

Stars and inactive Rewards registration have other clocks

The national terms give Stars their own two-year period. They also reserve a right to remove a Card’s registration from Rewards after three years without purchase activity. Neither statement says that the prepaid euro balance automatically disappears on that date. A recipient should distinguish a count of loyalty Stars, the status of programme registration and the actual monetary Card funds. Keeping those records separate avoids interpreting the loss of a benefit or a membership change as a specific card-expiry event that the monetary clauses do not state.

Calculate spending without inventing a denomination

For illustration, EUR 20 of genuine prepaid value less an eligible EUR 6.40 purchase would leave EUR 13.60. The agreement describes a Card balance and a receipt showing its remaining value. Preserve those transaction records if the displayed amount seems incorrect. A loading minimum governs adding money and is not a rule requiring the residual balance to stay above that minimum after each eligible purchase.

Protection and cash-out have qualified remedies

The agreement restricts payout to its termination provisions and describes a refund if AmRest ends the agreement, after amounts owed are accounted for. It separately addresses registered damaged or technically defective Cards, including wording about protection at notice and a stated EUR 30 maximum in the replacement clause. These conditions are not an unlimited promise for every lost credential. Identify the exact problem and retain the purchase information before seeking a remedy.
