Which Sephora card should I buy?

Match the recipient's Sephora country: a US card covers US and Canadian stores and sites, while a French, German, Swedish, Danish or Australian card only works on that country's site and in its stores. The balance is held in the issuing country's currency; US and Canadian cards work in both countries at the daily exchange rate, while European and Australian cards stay in their own country.

An ordinary American gift card represents money toward eligible merchandise. It differs from a promotional award and from merchandise credit received after a return. Those products may look related while offering different payment routes. The public USD observation is useful when comparing price labels, but it cannot identify the origin, unused value or activation state of an individual credential.

Read the retail purchase limit separately from the menu

The national FAQ prints a maximum denomination of $250 and permits one gift-card purchase per issuer online order. It also points larger purchases above $2,000 toward a corporate route. Neither figure supplies a complete selection menu. In particular, a maximum of $250 does not tell you the minimum value, the increment accepted by a custom field or whether every intermediate value is sold. Likewise, the number of cards allowed in a direct issuer purchase is different from the number that can later pay for a basket.

Kohl’s store acceptance has a precise boundary

An American recipient planning to shop at a Sephora counter inside Kohl’s needs to distinguish the shop from the Kohl’s website. The national FAQ accepts the ordinary gift card at Sephora at Kohl’s stores while explicitly excluding kohls.com. A store merchandise credit has a narrower rule and is not accepted at those Sephora at Kohl’s stores either. Entering a balance on an unrelated retailer checkout does not test whether it works at the eligible counter.

North American use does not promise every online route

The FAQ describes cross-border American and Canadian use with a daily exchange rate and excludes other international locations and websites. Its payment-location table also lists sephora.ca. The full US-issued-card redemption clause, however, explicitly names sephora.com, the US app and participating stores in the two countries. A traveller can distinguish an eligible Canadian store transaction from a Canadian online basket, then confirm the proposed route before depending on it for a gift.

Two cards and a shortfall are different payment questions

At most two gift cards or eGift cards can be used for one online merchandise order. Imagine a hypothetical basket with tax and shipping whose total exceeds the two available balances. The permitted card count does not erase the remainder; it asks a second question about an eligible additional payment method. The current US FAQ includes Klarna and Afterpay among its listed additional methods. Each national FAQ needs its own reading when comparing another market. Review the amount actually applied before confirming the merchant order rather than assuming two cards necessarily cover everything.

US resale depends on express written authorisation

The US-issued-card terms prohibit resale without express written consent from LGCS and state that cards obtained from an unauthorised reseller are not valid. That question is separate from whether a genuine, authorised card has a valid number, an unused balance or a long remaining life.

A credential, a wallet shortcut and a reload are different

Ordinary physical and electronic gift cards use a sixteen-digit number and an eight-digit PIN. Adding the gift to a mobile wallet makes the same balance easier to present; it does not create another pot of money. Reloading has its own acquisition conditions: some physical cards can be topped up at Sephora stores, while eGift cards, cards bought through authorized retailers and merchandise credits cannot. A second email copy is also not a second balance.

No expiration concerns the card rather than the goods

The ordinary American programme does not impose an expiration date or inactivity and service fees. That leaves separate questions about whether an individual code was activated, whether somebody already used it and whether a merchandise purchase qualifies for return. No-expiry wording cannot restore a spent balance. The US terms direct merchandise returns through their return policy, with specified cases returning value to a gift card. A recipient comparing an item with a gift balance should therefore keep the card’s continuing validity separate from the return conditions of the item chosen.
