Start with the recipient’s game rather than the publisher’s name

The current cash-code guide describes choosing an available game and committing the entire code to that game and account. An older VALORANT-specific card is described separately as usable only in VALORANT. For a graduation present, ask whether the recipient wants League of Legends currency, VALORANT currency or another supported outcome before selecting the gift. The current support article says a content code granting something already owned produces no duplicate, refund, shards or essence, while the credential is still consumed. That is useful to establish before buying for an experienced player whose collection the giver may not know. A cash-code contribution can leave the subsequent eligible content decision to the player, but its actual format and supported game still need verification. Neither the code’s visual design nor a large number in its seller title establishes which of those outcomes it provides.

The four historical dollar amounts are not a current offer

Riot’s July 2024 prepaid-card article lists ten, twenty-five, fifty and one hundred dollars in its League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics and Legends of Runeterra section. Its VALORANT section instead says there are various denominations without naming a list. The later 2026 cash-code guide explains a broader redemption process but does not publish a current amount menu or explicitly connect every new code to those older values. They are not selectable current products or values transferred to a different game.

A dollar face value and a number of Riot Points answer different questions

A cash code produces premium currency such as RP or VP for the selected game. Those units are not US dollars left in a general-purpose bank-style wallet. Riot’s terms describe game currency as a limited licence, normally specific to the game for which it was obtained, with no cash redemption. They also allow future changes to its purchasing power. Do not calculate a supposed card denomination by multiplying a points package by a remembered conversion rate, or treat a temporary bonus as a permanent exchange promise.

The older article associates cards bought in the United States or Canada with the North American server. The current general guide says cash codes are restricted to their purchase region and describes region/currency errors against an account’s server. Those observations establish the importance of regional compatibility, rather than the complete country list of the exact code proposed here.

Two current help pages give different advice about web redemption

The cash-code guide dated 6 May 2026 documents shop.riotgames.com/redeem, entering the code, selecting a game and checking the summary before confirming. A Riot Codes FAQ dated 19 May still says prepaid gift cards must use the game client and cannot use a website. The newer cash guide also documents client routes.

A single claim commits the whole gift to the intended account

Under the current cash-code rules, one code is used once for one game and one account. It cannot be partly claimed for one player and partly kept for another. For a household present, decide which eligible recipient and game should receive the gift before confirming. The web instructions say a grayed-out title means that account has not yet played it; this is a useful prompt to check the intended outcome rather than select another game casually. Riot’s account terms require adulthood, emancipated-minor status or valid parent or guardian consent. They also prohibit sharing account credentials. Giving a code does not require handing over control of the recipient’s account.

No-expiry cash codes and expiring promotional content are different formats

The current guide explicitly says cash codes never expire. The separate content-code FAQ discusses promotional codes that can expire and cannot be recovered after use on another account. Those policies should not be exchanged simply because both products contain a string of characters. The account terms also allow action after prolonged inactivity with notice and an opportunity to reactivate. That concerns account access, rather than assigning an expiry clock to an unused paid code.

Receipts and the original source matter when something fails

Current support distinguishes a mistyped code, missing retailer activation, an already used code and a region mismatch. Preserve the original card or digital message and receipt so those situations can be investigated separately. Account currency may appear immediately after a successful claim but can take up to twenty-four hours; that issuer crediting period is separate from seller delivery. Riot’s refund policy cannot send a real-money refund through a gift/prepaid payment method, though an appropriate game-currency refund may be possible under its conditions.
