Quick answer
On Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, open Nintendo eShop and pick your account. Select Redeem Code (Enter Code on US systems), type the 16-character code, then Add Funds. You can also redeem at ec.nintendo.com/redeem. US cards work only with US Nintendo Accounts, while European cards work in any country that uses the card's currency.
Redeem a Nintendo eShop code step by step
Go online and open Nintendo eShop
Make sure the console is connected to the internet, then open Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
Select your account
Choose the user whose Nintendo Account should receive the funds.
Select Redeem Code
It sits on the left side of the screen. On US systems the option is called Enter Code.
Enter the 16-character code
The keyboard disables letters and symbols codes never use, such as O, I and Z. Enter the download code, not the Control Number, which usually begins with an S.
Confirm and add funds
Select Confirm, then Add Funds. The funds are applied to your balance automatically.
Can I redeem a Nintendo eShop code on the web?
Yes, at ec.nintendo.com/redeem. Nintendo of America says the Nintendo Account must have used Nintendo eShop on a Switch at least once. Sign in, enter the 16-digit code, re-enter your password and confirm.
Why won't my Nintendo eShop card redeem?
Region is the usual cause. In the Americas, cards are country-specific and redeem only on systems or accounts set to that country. The intended country is printed on the back of the card. Nintendo cannot exchange a card designed for one country for another. In Europe, a card works in any country using the card's currency, so a French card loads a German account. Balance caps can also block a code. Nintendo Europe allows at most €400 or £340, and Nintendo's US terms say a code may be temporarily unredeemable once the maximum balance is reached.
Do Nintendo eShop funds expire?
No, not in the US. Nintendo's US code terms say the balance does not expire and there are no fees associated with the code. Nintendo Europe also charges no extra fees: a £15 card simply adds £15 to your balance. For a code bought from us that will not redeem, email [email protected] with your order number.
