Does a Nintendo eShop card from another country work?
It depends on the region. In the Americas, eShop cards are country-specific and work only on systems or Nintendo Accounts set to that country. In Europe, a card works in any country that uses the same currency, so a card bought in France loads a German account. Nintendo cannot exchange a card meant for one country for another. The intended country or region is printed on the back of each card.
Which currency is my Nintendo eShop balance in?
Your balance uses the currency of your Nintendo Account's country, so buy a card in that currency. A US account needs a US card, a UK account a pound card, and euro accounts take any euro card. Nintendo Europe caps the balance at €400 or £340, which is also the most you can add in 24 hours. Other European currencies have their own caps, such as SEK 4,400, NOK 4,600, DKK 3,000 and PLN 1,700.
What does a Nintendo eShop card add?
It adds money to your Nintendo eShop balance, not a specific game. Use it for digital games and add-on content in Nintendo eShop on Switch and Switch 2. Nintendo says there are no extra fees: a £15 card adds £15 to your balance. Nintendo's US terms state the balance does not expire.
How do I redeem a Nintendo eShop code?
On Switch or Switch 2, open Nintendo eShop, pick your account and select Redeem Code (Enter Code on US systems). Type the 16-character code, confirm, then Add Funds. You can also use ec.nintendo.com/redeem with an account that has used the eShop on a Switch. Enter the download code, not the Control Number that usually begins with an S.

US Nintendo eShop codes are valid only with US Nintendo Accounts.

Nintendo eShop gift cards: questions
Can I use a US Nintendo eShop card on a European account?
No. Nintendo of America says eShop cards are country-specific, and US codes are valid only with US accounts. For a UK account order the UK Nintendo eShop card; for a US account, the US Nintendo eShop card. Our region lock table compares other brands.
Does a German Nintendo eShop card work in France or the Netherlands?
Yes. Nintendo Europe says eShop cards can be used in any country that uses the card's currency, and gives a France-to-Germany example. A German euro card therefore funds euro eShop accounts in other euro countries. A pound card is a different currency and suits UK accounts.
Does Nintendo eShop balance expire?
No. Nintendo's US code terms say the balance does not expire and carries no fees. Nintendo Europe also charges no extra fees, but caps the balance at €400 or £340. Pay for your code at face value with Litecoin, BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH or SOL.
