How to redeem

  1. Use the Dutch-origin gift card or e-voucher for eligible Dutch MediaMarkt purchases; exclude Marketplace products.
  2. Choose Cadeaubon toevoegen at online payment and enter the card number and PIN. At most five cards can fund an order, or four cards plus an additional payment method when a shortfall remains.

Five cards and four cards describe different payment plans

The Dutch payment guidance provides two cases. An order funded through gift cards may use up to five of them. If their balance is insufficient and another payment method must complete the purchase, the published limit becomes four gift cards plus that additional method. Someone preparing five small credentials should therefore decide whether they cover the intended basket before proceeding. The difference concerns the number of payment instruments, not five euros versus four euros.

The purchase origin matters even within the euro area

The national help says only cards bought in the Netherlands can be spent in the Dutch webshop and its Dutch stores. This makes the original national programme relevant even when another country uses euros and the retailer’s branding looks familiar. A recipient should retain the original gift information rather than relying solely on a converted price or the country selected on a reseller page. It also does not impose a particular recipient residence or account-country condition; those would require their own explicit rule.

Check the credential before assembling the basket

The Dutch online gift-payment instructions call for the card number and PIN through the add-gift control. The broader payment FAQ says the card must have a security code and places that code beneath the scratch layer on physical cards. Keep that information private and preserve the physical card after revealing the code.

Marketplace items need a different payment expectation

The Dutch issuer explicitly excludes Marketplace products from gift-card payment. A recipient choosing merchandise should check the seller, because the website’s common layout can display both the retailer’s own goods and offers supplied by another business. The intended payment method should be considered before building a basket around an expensive partner item. A gift amount being large enough to cover the price does not override that seller restriction. Nor does the availability of an ordinary bank-card payment for a product prove the same product accepts the retailer’s closed-loop gift balance.

Buying an e-voucher is different from spending one

The Dutch payment FAQ says an e-voucher can currently be acquired only using iDEAL. Its separate redemption guidance permits existing e-voucher or gift-card balance to pay part of a merchandise order. These statements should remain attached to the transaction they describe. An acquisition-method rule does not tell a recipient to fund a bank account before spending a gift already received.

A returned purchase restores gift balance

The national policy excludes exchanging a gift card for cash. For an eligible order originally paid partly or fully through gift cards, it says the reimbursement is made in gift-card balance. Keep the gift credential as well as the order reference while a merchandise return is being handled, because returning goods and requesting repayment of an unused gift are different requests. The page separately says a paid gift-card order cannot be cancelled once production and sending begin immediately. That direct acquisition policy should not be confused with the return conditions for an appliance or accessory bought later using gift money.

Missing activation and exhausted balance are different problems

The Dutch help identifies two possible causes when a gift does not work: no positive balance, and a card that was never loaded or activated. A recipient should first establish what was received and preserve its acquisition record, then use the retailer’s stated support or balance route as appropriate. There is no need to publish the card number to compare these general policies. Public documentation cannot show that a supplier has a live unused card merely because the programme accepts gifts at the national checkout.

An unknown expiry must not borrow a neighbouring rule

The inspected Dutch ordinary-card bodies establish payment mechanics, origin restrictions and refund form, but do not supply a current expiry period or its starting event. A corporate-card offer, a loyalty coupon or a third-party branded card sold by the retailer can have its own numbers without answering those ordinary-card questions. This prevents a five-year claim from another country or seller becoming an unsupported deadline on a Dutch recipient’s gift.
