Validity

US Hotels.com gift cards never expire and carry no fees against the balance; UK Hotels.com gift cards expire 3 years after the date of purchase.

How to redeem

  1. Select an eligible new Pay Now hotel booking on the Hotels.com United States website or mobile application; the issuer defines Pay Now as payment to the platform when booking.
  2. At booking payment, use the gift-card option and the genuine gift-card details. If that option is absent, the issuer says the booking is not eligible.
  3. Only one card is usable per booking under the full terms. Multiple card balances may be combined before booking, subject to the USD 2,000 merged-balance maximum. The FAQ wording about up to five cards is preserved as wording about a prior merge, not five independent checkout tenders.

Which Hotels.com card should I buy?

Buy the card for the Hotels.com site the recipient books on: a USD card for hotels.com in the US, a GBP card for uk.hotels.com. The hotel can be in any destination that site lists. A Hotels.com gift card is denominated in the currency of the site it was sold for (US cards in US dollars, UK cards in pounds) and is used like a payment card: you enter its number at the payment step of a booking on that site.

A contribution to accommodation, rather than a fixed stay

The US Hotels.com gift is a closed-loop monetary card. Its balance contributes to an eligible hotel booking; it does not promise a particular number of nights, a named room or an accommodation price. The national gift page describes physical cards sent by mail and digital cards sent by email, with purchase amounts between USD 10 and USD 2,000. A recipient should identify the actual amount on the offered card. The same range also does not reserve a property or guarantee that its future price will fit the gift.

Keep the US platform separate from the destination

The full card terms describe use in the United States on the Hotels.com United States website or mobile application. This identifies the programme and booking route; a Hotels.com logo alone is insufficient to establish another national site’s acceptance. The brand’s gift page markets accommodations worldwide, while the issuer’s introductory page uses narrower wording about bookings in the United States. Those descriptions do not supply a reliable universal list of hotel destinations. Check the actual booking’s gift-payment eligibility rather than assuming every property is covered.

Pay Now is a specific booking condition

Eligible use is for a new Pay Now hotel booking, meaning payment to the Hotels.com platform when the reservation is made. It excludes paying at the hotel, Pay Later, bookings charged by the hotel, an existing reservation and charges for changing one. The list also excludes Groups and Meetings, flights, activities, car rentals, cruises, packages and credit accounts. Booking a property that appears on Hotels.com is therefore only the beginning of the eligibility check. The issuer says that an absent gift-card option at payment indicates an ineligible booking. Telephone, live chat and other customer-support channels are not alternative redemption routes under these terms.

One payment card and a separate balance merge

The full terms allow one gift card per booking. They separately permit several card balances to be combined into one before use, with a maximum resulting balance of USD 2,000 unless a lower maximum applies at purchase. The gift-page FAQ says up to five cards at once, then directs the customer to merge balances before booking. This should not be read as permission to enter five independent cards at the payment stage. Nor does it establish every limit of the balance-service form. For someone receiving several gifts, confirm that the proposed combination is supported before relying on the combined amount for an intended reservation.

No expiration and no deductions for ordinary balance fees

The full US terms state that the card does not expire and that no fees are assessed against its balance. There is no purchase anniversary, activation deadline or last-use reset added to that ordinary validity statement. The terms separately address unclaimed-property escheat when applicable law requires it, which is distinct from a printed ordinary card expiry. The no-balance-fee clause is also narrower than a promise about every cost surrounding a trip. It does not erase accommodation charges or establish whether a purchase outlet charges for physical delivery. Keep the gift’s remaining value, the booking total and any separate payment costs as different figures.

Use arithmetic without inventing a denomination

As an illustration, applying USD 165 from a genuine USD 200 balance would leave USD 35. This is subtraction for a hypothetical eligible transaction, not proof that USD 200 is one of the current gift-shop buttons or that any room costs USD 165. A gift card is limited to its available balance, does not bear interest and cannot be reloaded after purchase. Likewise, earning OneKeyCash on an eligible gift-funded stay differs from spending a loyalty reward alongside the card; the latter needs permission from the relevant reward programme.

Acquisition, activation and gifting have different meanings

CARDCO CXXXIX, Inc. is the gift-card issuer and sole obligor under the full terms; Hotels.com and Expedia are not the card issuer. Proper acquisition and activation are conditions of validity. The terms also exclude cards obtained from unauthorised sellers or resellers, including internet auction sites. Selling, bartering or exchanging the card for value is prohibited, while giving it to another person without monetary consideration as a gift is permitted. The separate daily purchase restriction in the issuer terms does not create an entitlement to buy from any outlet.

Card remedies are distinct from cancelling a hotel

The card cannot ordinarily be returned, refunded or exchanged for cash, except where law requires otherwise. The risk clause says cards are not replaced if lost, damaged, stolen, destroyed or used without permission. A non-functional card caused by a system error has a separate replacement remedy, subject to applicable law. Keep those situations separate when retaining purchase information and protecting the credential. Cancelling a hotel reservation raises another question: the booking has its own cancellation and refund conditions.
