The US withdrawal has two relevant dates
eBay's current US help dates the start of the gift-card sale phase-out to 3 August 2026. It then explicitly states that digital eBay gift cards can no longer be purchased as of 24 September 2026. Those statements describe a timeline rather than two interchangeable deadlines. A page that merely retains a familiar product name or historical amount is not enough to establish which situation applies.
An existing balance is not cancelled by stopped sales
The national US agreement says an eBay gift card does not expire and carries no inactivity or service fees. The sale-change help likewise says existing cards and their remaining value continue to be usable under those terms. This matters for someone who already received a gift and now sees a notice that the programme is ending. A no-expiry rule also does not reserve today's listings or product prices. The recipient still needs an eligible live item and sufficient funds when the purchase is made.
US delivery eligibility is part of using the card
The US terms require a user aged eighteen or older, an eBay account and a US shipping address for the purchased items. They prohibit redemption outside the United States or its territories and address attempts to ship abroad through a forwarding service. A listing priced in US dollars therefore does not by itself establish that the gift card can fund an international delivery. Inspect the intended destination before confirming the purchase. The terms also say opening an account may require credit-card or bank-account information for security. A seller's own checkout policy cannot remove those issuer account conditions, so do not treat the card as an unconditional guest-payment route.
First use and explicit account linking affect the remaining value
The help lets a holder add a card through eBay's official Add Gift Card page. Once used, remaining value cannot be transferred to another eBay account. Verify the signed-in identity before applying a code, particularly on a shared device. For a present, send the unused card to its intended user rather than trying a small purchase yourself to see whether it works. The latter action could bind the remaining value to the sender.

Daily and monthly thresholds are separate from the card amount
The current US agreement limits redemption to $1,000 per day and $1,500 per calendar month, and says eBay reviews accounts linked to a user when calculating those limits. Creating or using another account is therefore not a documented way to obtain a separate allowance. A low remaining balance also does not reveal how much has already been redeemed during the relevant day or month. Keep the issuer's cumulative limits separate from any seller's per-order ceiling.
Some item categories remain excluded after the sales change
The national terms exclude seller fees, other gift cards, gift certificates, coupons, coins, paper money, virtual currency and bullion. Check the precise basket rather than relying on a broad description such as collectibles or electronics. A recipient cannot turn existing eBay value into another merchant's gift card simply because that product appears on the marketplace. These are separate product categories with separate conditions. If an excluded item is the reason for shopping, select an accepted payment method for that purchase instead of seeking additional prepaid eBay value.
