Check the balance
On HEMA's 'saldo opvragen' page, type the 15-digit code (starting 3004) or 19-digit code (starting 6064) and click 'saldo opvragen'.
Choose store or hema.nl
Visit any HEMA store in a euro country, or shop on hema.nl. Belgian online orders on HEMA.com cannot use the card.
Pay with the card
Hand it over at the till, or select it as payment at checkout on hema.nl.
Pay the difference
Cover any shortfall with another payment method. Whatever is left stays on the card.
Does a Dutch HEMA card work in Belgium or France?
Yes, in stores. HEMA says its gift card can be spent in all HEMA stores in countries where the euro is the currency. So a card bought for the Netherlands also pays in a HEMA store in Belgium, and the other way round.
Online is the catch. Only hema.nl takes gift cards today. HEMA's Belgian help page says paying with gift cards on HEMA.com is not yet possible, so Belgian shoppers use the card in a store.
What can't I buy online with a HEMA gift card?
On hema.nl, the conditions exclude photo products, 'vriendenprijsjes' (friends' prices), tickets and insurance, among others. HEMA's Belgian page also lists bikes and folding bikes and made-to-measure curtains.
In stores, the card covers almost the whole range. It cannot buy other gift cards and is never exchanged for cash. Cards sold with a discount or bonus value are limited to 3 per customer.
What if my HEMA card is damaged, lost or expired?
The card is not tied to a person, so HEMA issues no new card for damage or loss. Keep the code safe until the balance is used.
Most cards never expire. If yours has a limited validity, the balance page shows the expiry date, and the credit lapses after it. Can I use a HEMA gift card on HEMA.com?
No, not yet. HEMA says gift cards cannot be used on HEMA.com, only in stores. The Dutch webshop hema.nl does accept them.
Do I have to spend a HEMA card in one go?
No. HEMA lets you spend the card in parts, and you can check the remaining balance with the code on the back.
