Validity

The February 2026 ordinary terms expire value five years from receipt; each use as payment interrupts and restarts that period. The FAQ instead says purchase or last use unless the card states otherwise. The initial-anchor discrepancy is preserved, not transferred to promotional gifts.

How to redeem

  1. Use a duly acquired and activated ordinary Swiss gift only for eligible first-party Swiss MediaMarkt purchases; the terms prohibit resale and exclude international use.
  2. Apply the card to full or partial payment at a Swiss MediaMarkt destination and retain the balance and the payment-use date. The official gift-card overview supplies the national balance-check route; no credential was tested.

The physical Wirbel Weiss-Rot design and the Standard selfprint product both display twenty-to-five-hundred-Swiss-franc boundaries. They also must not be read as an euro menu merely because another national programme has similar artwork. The ordinary Swiss terms expressly hold the balance in CHF. Keep that native value separate from a comparison price displayed in another currency, and establish the actual format before treating an advertised amount as a deliverable gift.

International use is expressly excluded

The current ordinary terms name Swiss MediaMarkt stores and the Swiss online shop, then expressly exclude international use. A visitor crossing a border cannot assume the gift follows the brand into another country. The same territorial clause also differs from a recipient-residence requirement: it identifies the eligible redemption destinations. Before planning a purchase, check that the merchandise is being bought through an eligible Swiss MediaMarkt destination and that the seller is the retailer itself rather than an outside business displayed on the same site.

The resale clause requires particular attention

Section 3.2 prohibits resale of gifts to private or business customers and says a subsequent buyer cannot redeem the balance. The business section supplies a narrower exception: resale or use as a competition prize needs prior written consent from MediaMarkt Switzerland. No such consent for this merchant has been established. Personal transferability appears elsewhere in the terms, but does not remove that commercial restriction. An available amount field, an unused card or a supplier’s product listing would therefore leave a separate permission question unanswered. This documentary guide does not turn the Swiss programme into a saleable merchant product.

Receipt starts the detailed five-year period

The February 2026 terms expire ordinary value five years from receipt of the gift and state that each use as a payment interrupts and restarts the period. The Swiss FAQ summarises validity as five years after purchase or last use unless another date is stated on the card. A balance enquiry is not described as a payment, so merely checking the remaining money is not asserted to restart five years.

Sixty days governs a fully depleted carrier

The ordinary Swiss gift is described as reloadable, but reloading is no longer possible after sixty days have elapsed since complete exhaustion of its balance. It does not say a positive balance expires after sixty days, nor does it replace the five-year receipt-and-payment-use rule. Someone deciding whether to retain a completely spent card is therefore asking a different question from a recipient saving a small remainder. Keep the relevant dates distinct and avoid assuming that the ability to reload a card somewhere else applies to this Swiss programme.

Acquisition payment and activation have national conditions

The Swiss direct online purchase terms accept only approved credit cards from Swiss financial institutions. After full payment, the customer receives an activation link by email and is told to activate after receiving the gift; the terms include the selfprint email format in that description. The business channel instead uses advance invoicing and activation after payment and receipt confirmation. These are acquisition procedures for particular channels. They do not create a residence requirement for every recipient, prove this merchant has the same supply arrangement or establish a crypto payment route within the issuer’s own gift shop.

A Marketplace or Refurbished order is outside the gift clause

Third-party goods and services are excluded by the Swiss terms, with Marketplace merchandise and MediaMarkt Refurbished specifically identified. Do not borrow the Dutch five-card figure or the Austrian twenty-card figure. A recipient should verify both the actual seller and the payment allocation for the intended Swiss basket. The separately named Shopping Card is another payment product; its account or credit conditions do not define the ordinary gift described here.

Promotional and damaged cards have narrower provisions

A promotional Swiss gift may have a shorter printed deadline, a particular-store restriction or online-only use, and may lack an online balance-check facility. The terms permit only one promotional gift per person and purchase. These conditions should remain with that promotional credential rather than replacing ordinary terms. For ordinary gifts, lost or stolen cards are not replaced; a damaged but readable card may be replaced only with the card and original invoice. The general voluntary return right is excluded. Cash payout, interest and an alternative credit of the balance are also excluded, without establishing any merchant-specific refund or distribution arrangement.
