Where does an Instacart Canada code work?
Canada · CAD
The Canadian monetary programme is usable only where Instacart service is available. Canadian purchase and redemption help additionally require purchase, sending and redemption in the same country in which the customer lives. This is not an international grocery credit.

How to redeem
- In the Canadian app open Account, Credits, promos & gift cards, then Add and redeem the code. On the web use the corresponding account menu and Add funds.
- Check the gift balance and select the intended payment method at checkout; the Canadian help says it does not apply automatically while the general national terms describe gift balance as the default. Confirm the actual checkout before submitting.
The Canadian help states an explicit country boundary
The Canadian purchase and redemption articles say gifts can only be bought, sent and redeemed within the same country in which the customer lives. That statement is more specific than simply checking whether a nearby shop participates in Instacart. A recipient also needs service at the intended address, so national eligibility and local delivery coverage remain separate conditions. The presence of a generic dot-com redemption link in one national terms page does not erase the Canadian help’s country rule.
Eighteen November 2020 separates two coverage generations
The Canadian redemption help distinguishes gifts bought before 18 November 2020 from gifts bought on or after that date. Older gifts exclude specified charges including fees, tips and taxes, as well as prescriptions and alcohol. The later programme covers the full eligible order described by the help. This is a purchase-generation distinction rather than an expiration date or a new face value. A person holding an older gift should retain its actual purchase information instead of assuming that a recent help article rewrites every historical card.
Load the gift and confirm its actual checkout selection
The Canadian app instructions use Account, then Credits, promos & gift cards, followed by Add and code redemption. The web route uses the corresponding account menu and Add funds. Those steps describe loading value; applying it to merchandise payment is another step. The dedicated help says gift cards do not apply automatically and should be selected at checkout, while the general national terms describe gift balance as the default. Both statements are retained with their scope. Confirm the actual payment screen rather than promising either universal automatic use or universal manual selection across every interface.
A normal issuer order can contain ten gifts
The Canadian purchase article allows up to ten gift cards in one ordinary acquisition order. That count does not say ten balances can fund a merchandise basket or that a gift is worth ten dollars. The separate corporate route has a 2,000-dollar purchase minimum and explicitly discusses both USD and CAD gifts. This supplies useful currency context for the two national programmes, but the corporate threshold is not a consumer denomination. A customer comparing a small Canadian gift should therefore ignore bulk acquisition arithmetic when deciding which face values the current ordinary programme actually offers.
Custom exists without a published minimum or increment
The purchase help tells customers to select an amount or choose Custom, but its captured body does not print a current monetary menu, lower bound, upper bound or accepted increment. No CAD sequence is generated from that incomplete description. The nearby Instacart+ choices describe three, six or twelve months of membership; their prices belong to those durations and not to grocery-credit presets. The catalogue consequently keeps Canadian monetary denominations unknown. A detailed national usage guide can be useful while still failing the amount gate required to index a transactional product page or offer an actual selectable value.
A backup payment card and a temporary hold remain possible
The Canadian landing FAQ requires a credit or debit card at checkout even when gift value covers the estimated order. Weighted goods, changing prices or later additions can produce a temporary authorisation above that estimate. A recipient should review the final delivered basket and completed payment allocation when reconciling charges. For an older gift, the purchase-generation exclusions also matter: having enough nominal value does not necessarily mean that every cost category is eligible.
Membership access cannot replace ordinary monetary credit
The national purchase material separately explains Instacart+ membership gifts. They provide the named membership term and cannot fund items, tips, taxes or all checkout fees. If a recipient already has an automatically renewing membership, the gift can extend its existing term while the prior renewal setting remains relevant; someone without membership has a different renewal situation described in the help. Those service rules do not make the gift a reloadable CAD wallet.
No expiry does not remove the national resale restriction
The Canadian monetary terms state no expiration or dormancy, inactivity and service fees for ordinary gift cards. They separately prohibit resale, transfer for value and unauthorised commercial use, and disallow transferring loaded balances between accounts. A generous validity rule is therefore not a distribution licence.

What changed on 18 November 2020?
