Swedish, Danish and Norwegian cards each pay only in their own country, and never in the app. ## Pay with a McDonald's gift card step by step 1. **Pick a restaurant in the card's country** — A Swedish card works at every McDonald's in Sweden. Danish and Norwegian cards stay in Denmark and Norway. 2. **Open the QR code** — Digital cards arrive by email or SMS with a QR code. That code is what pays in the restaurant. 3. **Order at a kiosk, till or McDrive** — Choose your meal on a self-service screen, at the counter or in the drive-through lane. 4. **Scan to pay** — Use the QR code from the email or text as your payment for the order. 5. **Settle any difference** — If the meal costs more than the card holds, pay the rest with another payment method. ## Why won't the McDonald's app take my gift card? McDonald's does not accept gift cards for mobile orders in its app. The same applies to food delivered by its McDelivery partners. Payment has to happen in the restaurant. Swedish cards are valid for two years from the purchase date. Danish and Norwegian cards are valid for one year, unless the card itself says otherwise. No restaurant swaps a card for cash. In Sweden and Norway, physical cards without a QR code are never paid out, not even through customer service.
