## Does an Amazon.com gift card work on Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.de?

No. Each Amazon store issues its own gift cards, and they only redeem on that store. Amazon.com's terms say the balance cannot be used at any Amazon property outside the United States. The Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.ca and Amazon.com.au terms each list the other Amazon sites where their cards do not work.

Once redeemed, the balance cannot move to another account or to an Amazon store in a different country. Amazon.fr, Amazon.es and Amazon.it give the same advice: to shop on another country's site, buy that country's card. ## What does an Amazon gift card add to your account?

It adds gift card balance in the store's currency: dollars on Amazon.com, pounds on Amazon.co.uk, euros on Amazon.de, yen on Amazon.co.jp. It is not a subscription or a voucher for one product. Buy the card for the store the recipient really shops on, in its currency. A shopper on Amazon.de needs an Amazon.de card. A shopper on Amazon.com needs an Amazon.com card. Pick the wrong store and the code will not apply.
