## Why does gift card validity differ by country?

Many issuers run one card programme per country, and local consumer law sets minimum periods in some markets. That is why a brand can state no expiry in one country and a fixed period in another. The product page of each card shows the rule that applies to that country, with its issuer source.

**Methodology.** For each brand we opened the issuer's own gift card terms or help pages and copied the validity rule in plain words, with the page and the date it was checked. Blogs, resellers and forums are not used. Rules change: quote the date with the rule.

### Do Amazon gift cards expire?

Expiry depends on the store: Amazon.com, Amazon.ca and Amazon.com.au cards do not expire, Amazon.com.mx cards expire five years after issue, and UK, EU, Japanese, Gulf, Egyptian and South African cards expire ten years after issue.
